The consequences of missing one or multiple teeth extend far beyond aesthetics. Missing teeth can result in difficulty in speaking and eating, as well as shifting of the teeth which can impact how your teeth come together when you bite. An improper bite can lead to various issues, such as headaches, muscle pain, tooth sensitivity/pain or tooth wear. Replacing missing teeth can help you to maintain a confident, functional and healthy smile.
Dentures
A denture is a removable dental appliance, meaning that it can be taken out of the mouth and placed back in. It is used to replace missing teeth, helping to improve the way you chew, bite, and speak and restore your smile. It is custom-made to fit your mouth and is typically made of acrylic (plastic) or metal and acrylic.
Bridges
Bridges are a fixed option for replacing missing teeth. They involve using the adjacent tooth or teeth next to the gap to hold the bridge in place. They may use crowns on one side or either side of the gap, with a false tooth in the middle, known as a conventional bridge, or they may have a ‘wing’ on the side of the false tooth, which attaches to the back of the neighbouring tooth, known as an adhesive bridge.
